Korean police to monitor Internet for rumours
2008/06/20 00:51Following remarks from President Lee Myung-bak on the perceived problems of rumours spreading on the Internet, the national police and government have responded with new measures to monitor Internet sites and message boards:
Taking a cue from his remarks, the National Police Agency said Wednesday it will establish an ``Internet monitoring team watching over public opinion online; collect information about gatherings and what Internet users think about social issues; and set the record straight about spread groundless rumors.''

The Korea Communications Committee plans to expand the online real-name system. A new regulation stipulates that when an Internet user posts or spreads a message on a portal site that is false or degrading to other individuals or companies, the portal will be required to step up monitoring and supervision of its contents.
