Korean newspapers reject Naver's Newscast service
2008/12/04 20:45Naver’s plans to shift editorial control of news content on their site has been rejected by the major Korean newspapers:
Naver, which could select from a total of 43 news providers, decided to allow users to choose their favorite news sources beginning in December 2006. Using these results, they planned to feature the 14 most popular news outlets on News Cast, said a company official on condition of anonymity.
However, the Korea Online Newspaper Association said yesterday that it will not take part in Naver’s News Cast.
“If Naver’s News Cast goes into operation, newspaper agencies are expected to engage in dirty competition. They will try to generate more Web traffic by luring users with sensational headlines in order to win a spot among the top 14 news agencies,” said KONA.
