Research in Motion’s (RIM) Blackberry Bold 9000 is being released to corporate users in Korea through SK Telecom. There was previous speculation that RIM’s phones could be sold through an exception by classifying them as PDAs, but it’s no long as an issue with Korea’s plans to do away with the Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability requirements in April 2009.

The Korea Times also looks at some other foreign mobile phone makers that are looking to bring their phones to Korea:

Now, Japan's Sony, Toshiba and Sharp are fully set to introduce touch screen phones for technology-savvy Korean consumers in early 2009.

Analysts and industry officials say it is highly unlikely for foreign phone makers to get a bigger slice in the market without detailed blueprints to meet the needs of Korean consumers for multi-functional devices.
