Cisco CEO John Chambers recently visited Korea to announce some new investments totalling $2 billion dollars over the next five years. The investments will include a new research and development center, venture capital fund and ubiquitous city network in Songdo:

Cisco’s primary investments will go to giving Incheon a “ubiquitous” citywide network, as part of the company’s Connected Urban Development program to improve quality of life and the environment using IT. Cisco in February signed an agreement with Incheon to erect a “U-City Global Center” in Songdo that will run an Internet-powered lifestyle network, offering citizens instant access to traffic information, telecommunications, education and medical services.
