Kookmin multimedia credit card (reader)
2007/11/30 18:37Kookmin Bank along with Samsung SDI have announced plans to release a new multimedia credit card that can be used with a new credit card case/reader that can display account information along with some other functions.
The case, which is 6 cm wide by 10 cm long and 1 cm thick, is a portable media player, using the AMOLED display to show multimedia content such as video clips and photos. Users can also search information stored on the card's memory chip to look up their transaction records, browse their banking histories and even check their credit card bonus points.
The actual technology to have the display embedded in the credit card is at least another two years away
according to a representative from Kookmin Bank.
If you're still confused at the concept, KB has released a somewhat bizarre promotional video. While the demonstration seems to include some card-based RFID features, the video also demonstrates some other functions of the reader like bus route guide, audio output for listening to music or videos along with displaying store coupons downloaded at an ATM. Along with a young lady that seems to be overjoyed at all the functions of her new KB card reader.
