Morning Commuters

The Korea Times has an article on newspaper subscribers requesting earlier delivery times for their morning papers. You still see most people here in Seoul reading a newspaper or book when riding a bus of the subway.

Another business affected by the early birds is the newspaper industry, as more readers are calling in to have their paper at their door before they leave homes.

``We've been seeing a rising number of subscribers calling to have their delivery done at least by 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. at the latest,'' said Cho Jae-ho, who works in the circulation department of the local daily Hankook Ilbo. ``It's a waste of subscription fee for them that day if they leave before their paper comes, so we try our best on speed.''

Along with talking on a cellphone or listening to an MP3 player, the only other digital devices that I've seen being used are GameBoys and people watching television on their DMB enabled cell phones or personal media players (PMP). I have yet someone to pull out a WiBro enabled Samsung Ultra Mobile PC or similar tablet computer. (Though Danny Kim of Techno Kimchi did an experiment with watching live TV using Joost on a bus.)

KT is supposedly rolling out some new WiBro devices this month to help broaden their subscriber base. I'll report back with some information on the new models since they might be demoing these at an upcoming electronics tradeshow here in Seoul.
