In Korea, Twitter is facing competition with similar services from small startups, mobile phone operators and online portals:

Despite the enthusiasm by the Korean industry, it currently seems that only me2Day has a hope of competing with Twitter in popularity.

NHN got involved in micro-blogging when it acquired me2DAY (me2day.net) late last year. The company had been struggling to generate excitement for me2DAY, but the Twitter buzz seems to have provided a shot in the arm.

Two of Korea’s mobile phone operators also recently opened new Twitter accounts:

KT, the country's largest telephony company and runner-up mobile operator, recently opened a Twitter account (twitter.com/ollehkt) and now has around 900 ``followers,'' listed to receive the company's ``tweets'' (postings).

SK Telecom, the mobile telephony king, had already opened a Twitter page (twitter.com/sktelecom―blog) in May, an interesting decision considering that the company operates competing micro-blogging service, Tossi (www.tossi.com).
