i-Frame: New WiBro-enabled information displays at Seoul bus stops
2008/03/19 23:58Korea Telecom (KT) unveiled the installation of large panel screens at bus stops in the Songpa District of Seoul to provide news and information using their i-Frame service (Korean). The information uses KT's WiBro service and is setup at sixteen bus stops.
The i-Frame displays present riders with news video, weather, stock market, UCC, commercials and other information. The KT i-Frame service runs on an Internet network to power the displays for businesses, schools and other public places. Some partners with KT on the i-Frame service are: Intellian Systems (Korean), Total Outdoor Solutions and View Communications (Korean).
Other areas of Seoul already use similar displays but with wired connections to display the data. Here's a smaller display from a bus stop in Goyang City northwest of Seoul.
One problem with the i-Frame screens is that on sunny days the glass on the i-Frame displays aren't readable due to glare from the sun. The Goyang City displays are more readable when it's sunny since the bus shelters are enclosed in the back and front by tinted glass partitions.
Here's a short video clip of the i-Frame display filmed at dusk:
